VESTAVIA

VESTAVIA, AL

George Ward, the mayor of the neighboring City of Birmingham, purchased 20 acres on the summit of Shades Mountain and commissioned the construction of a gazebo, Sibyl Temple, which resembles the Temple of Sibyl at Tivoli (near Rome) after becoming impressed with it during frequent trips to Italy and Greece in the early 1900s. The City of Vestavia Hills was incorporated in 1950, and Sibyl Temple was relocated to its current location near the intersection of U.S. Highway 31 and Shades Crest Road in 1976. It serves as the gateway to the northern entrance to the City from this location. Like Sibyl Temple provides the gateway to Vestavia Hills, the new green space at the Vestavia Hills City Center is the gateway to Mama’s vibrant atmosphere and fresh, delicious tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, and of course, those hand-shaken margaritas!
