TRUSSVILLE

TRUSSVILLE, AL

Not long after Alabama became a state in 1819, Warren Truss made his way from North Carolina and, with his brothers, constructed a grist mill on the Cahaba River. As the 1820’s rolled along, Truss, as it was known then, grew into a small farming community. The arrival of the Alabama-Chattanooga Railroad spurred additional growth in the years after the Civil War with mail, freight, and passengers arriving in what had then become Trussville. The Trussville Iron Furnace opened in 1886 on the site of what is now Cahaba Elementary School. At its peak the furnace produced 70,000 tons of pig iron annually. Now, almost 200 years later, Taco Mama has found a home in Trussville too! And while we don’t produce pig iron, we do cook up some tasty, slow roasted pork! Try it in our fresh-made tacos, burritos, quesadillas, or nachos! While you’re at it, grab a hand-shaken margarita…
