It was mostly farmland between Hillsboro Pike and Granny White Pike when the Belmont Mansion, originally named Belle Monte, and it's elaborate gardens were built in the 1850's. Not long after Hillsboro Village began to take shape when two groceries and a pharmacy opened alongside the trolley line that ran down Hillsboro Road from Nashville, creating a street car suburb. The street cars are gone but for Vanderbilt, Belmont, Lipscomb, Tennessee State and the surrounding Hillsboro Village neighborhoods, Taco Mama is here with amazing tacos and margaritas, made fresh daily, for locals and students alike.
