Around the turn of the last century influential businessman Edward Dilworth Latta introduced the first streetcar to Charlotte, creating what historian Dr. Thomas W. Hanchett called the city’s first streetcar suburb – Dilworth. According to Dr. Hanchett, the loop track where trolley cars turned around to head back to the Charlotte square was at the intersection of East Boulevard and Park Road, and along the way riders were treated to the beautiful parks and neighborhoods developed by Latta.
